Late Tuesday night, I got a call from my kind friend Marc Bianchi (Her Space Holiday), who had an unfortunate case of bronchitis. He asked me if I would like to take his spot performing Wednesday morning live on KEXP radio (broadcasting a special Bay Area show). Of course, I accepted. I rehearsed a last minute solo set into the early morning, preparing a couple new songs I have never played live (”Toy Baby Grand” and “Wartime Bachelor”). In summer 2007, we toured Japan for the first time with two fantastic bands, Lymbyc Systym and 4 Bonjour Parties (who are both our labelmates on Japanese label & Records). Our touring bassist Mike Rubenstein (one of the most reliable, awesomest dudes I know), made this little video compilation. (The soundtrack is a demo of a new Boy in Static song.) Here’s the second teaser video I created for the new album. It uses almost all old “soundie” footage from the popular Perlinger archives. The soundtrack is a clip of the title track from Candy Cigarette, a slower ballad in the middle of the album. My dad endorses this song as his favorite on the new album. I made this little animation as a little teaser for the new album Candy Cigarette. An afternoon of stop animation fun (using iStopMotion). I am glad the house did not burn. And thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for letting me borrow their camcorder. We did two US tours with our good friends Freezepop this past year. We did more harder-hitting, dance floor sets, and debuted a lot of songs from the new album Candy Cigarette. This is a video from Indianapolis. It’s a new song called “Osaka” (lyrics based on the city in Japan, where we toured in 2007, confusing).
