We had a fantastic time opening for Her Space Holiday last week at San Fran’s Bottom of the Hill. The highlight was inviting Brin’s 6-year-old nephew to join us on stage for our closer, “Young San Francisco.” (Devotees will recall that Levi is one of the stars of the
Young SF music video). The SF Bay Guardian wrote a thoughtful blog entry about the show with pictures
in a piece called “Boy In Static celebrates sweet suspicion.” The Deli Magazine was there too with a flattering
show review here.

We just launched the
Toy Baby Grand game, offering a new way to get MP3’s of our new album. The catch: we will unlock MP3’s one-by-one, based on how many people play the game. So share the link (
toy.boyinstatic.tv) with your friends! Warning: Beta testers say the game is pretty addictive. Read more below the cut, or just go and
play the game>.

Excited to share this quirky new music video for “Toy Baby Grand.” It was created using Textedit and free animated GIF clip art. A decidedly lo-fi effort, directed by myself and Philip Stockton. Read more about the making and watch the video below the cut (or at

A pet project I’ve been working on since summer of 2008, the music video for “Young San Francisco” has finally been let loose. A true labor of love, the footage was shot from summer to winter, Westport MA to Berkeley CA, beaches to BART stations. It features the charming talents of Levi Parker (Brin’s nephew) and Mayah Chen (my niece). Read more about the making and watch the video after the cut (or at

The new Boy in Static album Candy Cigarette is officially released on MP3 today! It will be on CD at your local indie record store next month (April 14th). But we decided to offer it a month early on MP3 so that folks could get it early, and to encourage people to buy the MP3’s instead of downloading leaks. You can find it at
iTunes,
Amazon.com,
eMusic, discounted at
Circle Into Square, and many other places. The new album features guest appearances by Marc Bianchi (
Her Space Holiday), Liz Enthusiasm (
Freezepop), Ulrich Schnauss, Hollie Gilson (
Mint Julep), and others. You can grab a big cover JPG by clicking the image below the cut.

The Noise Pop show at the Apple Store, my first gig as a “local” Bay Area band, was a very warm welcome. The room was packed even for our soundcheck. And my t-shirt color choice inadvertently disguised me as an Apple Store employee. It was the first time we’ve featured flute live. We played just before Yoni Wolf (of Why?), who brought a moving solo set on a Rhodes piano. Two different photographers,
Matthew Kowal and
Jonathan Hung, sent over a lot of nice photos. Check them out and read more after the cut.

RCRDLBL has a nice feature on the new single “Young San Francisco,” comparing it to “Patrick Wolf without the flare of hot pants” and one of my favorite bands Of Montreal. They are also offering a free exclusive MP3 of Montag’s great Soft Cell-inspired remix. Go and
grab the Montag remix MP3 here.

XLR8R magazine is featuring the “Young San Francisco” MP3. They say: “Simultaneously light-hearted and despondent, the first single off Boy in Static’s Candy Cigarette makes for a palate of strings, pianos, and electro synths served over a hefty dose of electronic bleeps.” Download and rate it
at XLR8R.
